Watching Sport in the UK
The UK has one of the most fragmented sports rights markets in the world, and it has just been through a round of changes that most guides have not caught up with. Two of them matter more than the rest, and both are covered below.
What you can watch free in the UK
Start here, because it is more than people expect. The UK has strong free-to-air protections for major events, and they are genuinely enforced.

| Six Nations | BBC, ITV and S4C — all free. BBC has five matches, ITV has ten including all England games |
| FA Cup | BBC shows 14 matches a season including the final, plus S4C for Welsh clubs |
| NFL | Two live games every regular-season Sunday on Channel 5 and 5Action, plus all six European games, the playoffs and the Super Bowl |

| EFL | ITV carries 10 live matches plus highlights, including the Carabao Cup |
| Super Bowl | ITV and ITVX |

The DAZN trap in the UK
DAZN operates in the UK, which surprises people who have read that it does not. But it carries no Premier League and no Champions League here. What it does carry is boxing — a very large amount of it — plus all 380 Serie A matches, the National League, and NFL Game Pass.
This is the country-by-country problem in miniature: DAZN holds Premier League rights in Canada and Spain, and does not hold them here. There is a full country breakdown.
The cheapest legal routes
- One match, one weekend? A NOW day pass at £14.99 beats a month's subscription.
- Only the big free events? BBC and ITV cost you nothing beyond the licence you may already have.
- Boxing or NFL? DAZN, which also has a free tier worth checking first.
- Serie A? DAZN carries all 380 matches.
- LaLiga or rugby? Premier Sports is the cheapest of the paid options.
