Best Free Sports Streaming

Free sport is not a compromise. Some of it is better than the paid equivalent, because it is funded by a licence fee or by tax rather than by a subscription, and nobody is trying to upsell you a package.

How this is ranked. By what you actually get: how much live sport, how reliably, whether it costs you a card or a login, and how likely it is to still be there next year. Not by which service pays a commission. Free services rarely pay one at all, which is precisely why so few sites rank them first.
How we define "free". Every option on this site is either a public broadcaster, a free ad-supported tier, an official free trial, or a rights-holder's own channel. We do not list or link to unlicensed rebroadcasts. Note that a VPN does not make a stream legal: reaching a service licensed for another country normally breaches that service's terms, and the bigger platforms actively block it.

The ranking

RankServiceWhereWhat you get
1 Your national public broadcaster Almost every market The best free sport available to you, and it is not close. BBC iPlayer, ARD and ZDF, RaiPlay, france.tv, RTVE Play, NPO Start, SVT Play, CBC Gem, ABC iview, SBS On Demand. Funded by licence fee or tax, usually in full quality, usually for whole events rather than highlights.
2 9Now Australia Selected Premier League matches free, plus NRL and the Australian Open. A rare case of top-flight football being genuinely free-to-air in a major market.
3 DAZN's free tier Most markets Permanent, not a trial, and in several markets no card needed. Selected live football plus highlights, with the depth depending entirely on the country — Germany's is the most generous.
4 Virgin Media PLAY Ireland At least 22 NFL games a season including the playoffs and the Super Bowl, free, under a deal running to 2028. One of the best free sports offers anywhere.
5 Channel 5 and 5Action UK Two live NFL games every regular-season Sunday, plus the playoffs, the Super Bowl and the European fixtures.
6 Cazé TV Brazil only A genuinely free, legal, rights-holding YouTube channel with an enormous football output. Geo-locked to Brazil — it holds Brazilian rights, not global ones, and it is widely misreported as a workaround.
7 Tubi, Pluto TV, The Roku Channel, Sling Freestream, Samsung TV Plus, Plex, LG Channels, Rakuten TV Varies Free ad-supported services with free sports channels and rolling highlights. Line-ups are limited and change often, so treat these as a bonus rather than a plan.
8 Rights-holder channels: FIFA+, the Olympic Channel, UEFA, Red Bull TV, the FA Player Global, geo-licensed Legal by definition, because the rights holder is publishing them. Mostly highlights and archive, with some free live events. Red Bull TV needs no login at all.

Why this order

Three tests, applied in order.

DAZN's free tier, in more detail

This is the most useful genuinely free option that almost nobody knows about. It is a permanent ad-supported tier, not a trial: there is no countdown, and in several markets no payment card is required at all.

What it carries varies by country. Germany's version includes selected live LaLiga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and Saudi Pro League matches plus Champions League highlights. Italy calls its version FreeZone, Spain's is "DAZN en abierto", and Japan's needs no credit card. Portugal, France, Belgium and the Netherlands run smaller free rails, as do the UK, Ireland, the US, India, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.

What it excludes everywhere: live boxing, NFL and NHL are paid. The full country breakdown is here.

Described as free. Is not free.

"Watch free on Amazon Freevee"Freevee has been shut down and its content folded into Prime Video, which is paid. Guides still recommend it.
"Peacock has a free tier"It does not. The free tier was discontinued, and there is no free trial either.
"Free with your TV package"Several broadcaster apps carry sport only if you already pay for a television package. The app is free; the sport is not.
"Use a VPN to watch it free"Not a free legal option. Reaching a service licensed for another country normally breaches its terms, and the large platforms detect and block VPNs anyway.
"ESPN+ free trial"No trial exists on ESPN Select or ESPN Unlimited, and ESPN+ is not the current product name.
Trap one: the UK TV licence. BBC iPlayer requires a licence for all use, live and on demand. More broadly, UK TV Licensing requires a licence for any live TV watched online on any service, and its own guidance names YouTube, Netflix and Prime Video. So the BBC is not free in the way RaiPlay or ARD are.
Trap two: free-to-air is geo-blocked to its own country. That is the price of rights being sold territory by territory. A free channel from another country is not a free option for you, and it is not a technical accident that it blocks you.

The big events are the easiest win

If you only watch the majors, you may never need to pay anything. Many countries protect the biggest events by law, which is why they are reliably free. The country-by-country page has the detail, and the practical guide walks through the order to check things in.

What is the best free way to watch live sport?
A public broadcaster in your own country, if one carries what you want. It is funded independently of you, it usually shows whole events rather than highlights, and it is both free and legal. After that, permanent free tiers such as DAZN's.
Is DAZN really free?
Partly. DAZN runs a permanent free ad-supported tier in most markets — not a trial, and in several countries with no card required. It carries selected live football and highlights. Live boxing, NFL and NHL are excluded everywhere.
Can I watch free sport from another country?
Not legitimately. Free-to-air services are geo-blocked to the country they are licensed for, and using a VPN to reach one elsewhere normally breaches its terms of use. That is not a free legal option.
Is Amazon Freevee still available?
No. Freevee has been shut down and its content folded into Prime Video, which is a paid service. Plenty of guides still recommend it.
Are free ad-supported services worth using?
As a bonus, yes. Tubi, Pluto TV, The Roku Channel and similar carry free sports channels and highlights, but their line-ups are limited and change often. They do not replace a public broadcaster or a rights-holding service.
